I would think we need more than 1 million, at least 2 million to retire in SG as the living expenses in SG is 1 of the highest in the world. We need to be able to cover our daily expenses and healthcare costs.

Cost of living is too high for us to retire, hence I believe >1 million is the minimum amount needed for retirement.

As an independent person, I estimate my monthly expenses will be about $1400. If I retire at 55, with an estimated lifespan of 85 years old, I estimate I will need less than 1 million to retirement comfortably, amidst rising inflation. I might be retired from employment, but it does not mean I will stop all sources of earning potential while enjoying my retirement life. My monies will continue to work hard for me in low risk investments (I am conservative and risk averse), continue to do side hustles like joining this forum, etc.

What you need is depending on what you spend and inflation level over the years before you retire. Prices may go up 3-4 time over 30 years so base on my spending that not spending too much on reataurants and luxury things, less than a million should be enough.

With $1M+ on hand, I can properly use it to generate passive income to fund my retirement years, spending it prudently.

Increase in the prices of food, transport, utilities and medical fees has caused the cost of living very high in singapore. I don't think our hard earned savings will be suffient for retirement.

Given the cost of living in Singapore and the increasing life expectancy, I believe that around 1.5 million is needed for retirement.

If the question is to each individual its the amount of less than 500K.
If one thinks hard and long enough, as one age, we really don't need to spend as much on necessities. The only highest cost is really just hospitalisation insurance. The rest are really just wants0 Vote -

I will need at least $1.5~2 millions to retire. Medical expenses, housing, transport, food and education costs are always on the rise. This amount can help me to comfortably retire and travel occasionally

Cost of living is actually not that high as compared with some other country, we do not need a lot just enough to live and save some for the next generation
