    Make payments with the country's currency especially if the currency is weaker than ours. Use multi-currency cards such as YouTrip or Revolut for this purpose.

    Take photos or photocopy your important documents (eg: passport) so that it will be easier for the passport to be replace.

    Use Google maps or other map apps. Google maps in countries like Japan have tons of reviews by locals and tourists. Super helpful for getting food recommendations.

    Take photos of your luggage. In case your luggage gets lost, having a photo will make it easier for airline staff to identify and find it.

    Remember the emergency numbers used in the country you are visiting.

    Bring your own travel kettle and cooker!!!! Some people actually boil their socks (and maybe underwear so gross) in the hotel kettles.. My toyomi kettle and travel pot is something i always bring to trips... useful and lightweight. not too expensive also

    While not having to face with those emergency experience, reading news on the unfortunate events by others, it does pay to purchase travel insurance to have a peace of mind. however do look into details of the policy and how to claim when need to, especially where the hospital requires you to pay upfront even if you have insurance
